Deputy Head of the Tax Service: "The number of salaried workers in the private sector of the non-oil sector has increased by 1.6 times"

"Since 2019, a different regime for tax benefits and social insurance applied to income from salaried work in Azerbaijan has ensured transparency in this field." This was stated by the Deputy Head of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, Samira Musayeva. The deputy head added that since the beginning of the reform (2019) until now, the number of salaried workers in the private sector of the non-oil sector has increased by 1.6 times.

Fakt Yoxla checked whether the number of salaried workers in the private sector of the non-oil sector has increased by 1.6 times since 2019.

According to the State Statistical Committee, on January 1, 2019, the number of employees working in the private sector in Azerbaijan was 667,200. 20,800 of them worked in the mining industry. That is, at the beginning of 2019, the number of employees working in the private sector of the non-oil sector in the country was 646,400.

The latest report of the State Statistical Committee on salaried workers in the country is related to the results of the third quarter of 2023, where it was stated that the number of salaried workers working in the private sector in Azerbaijan is equal to 829 thousand people. Since 21 thousand 600 of them work in the mining industry, the number of people working in the private sector of the non-oil sector in the country was equal to 807 thousand 400 people. 

This means that compared to 2019 (646 thousand 400 people), currently (807 thousand 400 people) the number of people working in the private sector of the non-oil sector in the country has increased by only 161 thousand people. In other words, since 2019, the increase in the number of employees in the private sector of the non-oil sector was equal to 25 percent.

Thus, during that period, the number of employees in the private sector of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan increased by 25%, not by 1.6 times (60%).
